ICT in the Curriculum

Teachers at Trafalgar Castle School have embraced the use of ICT in their curriculum and classrooms. Our vision and common purpose is to provide our students with the ICT resources to be used as tools in the development of research, communication, analysis and problem-solving skills and to imbed ICT usage across the curriculum and throughout the school.

Currently our teachers commit to appropriate use of ICT in 15% to 25 % of their course time. This curricular commitment is made possible by having our teachers and students equipped with laptop computers. Our teachers have adopted the "teacher as learning partner" approach and use student expertise with ICT to advance their curricular goals.

Reporting of acquisition of ICT skills to parents includes anecdotal reporting by individual subject in December, tracking of skill development by individual student in March and final tracking of skill development by individual student in June of each year. Regular Parent Focus Groups are employed to gather feedback on the learning process and enhance programme elements.

Our next focus will be the development of collaborative interdisciplinary projects for all grade levels. These projects will involve a high degree of student participation in the design and implementation process. The school administration will provide release time for teams of teachers to design grade projects. Ideally, these projects will be Web based and allow for the development of collaborative links with other schools.
