Your Success Today & Tomorrow

It’s a big, global world out there and in order to be successful in it you must be comfortable with today’s technology. That’s where the Connected Classroom comes in. Our completely networked classrooms enable curriculum delivery with full access to the Internet. Students love having the Internet right at their fingertips for research and communication. They are using this technology in phenomenal ways as it quickly becomes second nature to them. Even our Grade Six students remain connected through the Internet wired cabin while they are away at Muskoka Woods Sports’ Resort.

Our dedicated teachers are constantly revising and updating the curriculum to incorporate information technology. Thanks to their genuine interest all our students thrive and are successful here. As one student says, “We’re encouraged to work hard but the teachers are always there to help”. Students agree that small classes, individual attention and lots of encouragement from teachers and fellow students make all the difference.

Your Spirit Teamwork & Friendship

“Go for it.” “Try it.” These words, heard so often around Trafalgar Castle, encourage students to try out for many different sports. Everyone can find something to enjoy whether it’s a new sport or developing skills on a team. Being a small school means students are less intimidated to try out for teams than they would be in larger schools. We have a strong programme of competitive sports with over sixteen teams that compete all over the Greater Toronto Area. Like our rowing team that gets up daily at five a.m. to practice. Now that takes a special kind of enthusiasm. As one rower explains, “Our coach is really cool and the fact that she would get up at five in the morning is amazing. She motivates me to get up and go!”

School spirit begins with the daily morning assembly in the Chapel then soars during lunch when the entire School eats together in the dining room. This is when announcements are made, winning teams are congratulated, achievements are noted, and birthdays are celebrated. “When everyone’s together you can’t help but feel energized,” one student says. “The spirit is contagious.”

Your Talents

Your years at Trafalgar Castle are a time of discovery, a time to learn what makes you special. Maybe you have a knack for painting or a talent for organizing. With a maximum of only 240 girls, your talents can come out of hiding. Our Fine Arts Programme gives you hands on experience with every medium from drawing and painting to printmaking and sculpture. Our Dramatic Arts Programme exposes you to the fun and excitement of live theatre. Young musicians can take additional music classes during or after school.

Whatever you want to do, you have the opportunity to try at Trafalgar Castle. Join the S.W.A.T. Team and discover why Science Women Are Terrific. Take on a responsibility role with the Social Committee or write for the yearbook. Got a strong opinion? Our Debating Society has a history of excellence and participates in three tournaments per year.

One of our best gymnasts had never even tried gymnastics before coming here. As she puts it, “I would never have known I had a gift for gymnastics without the encouragement from all my friends at Trafalgar.”

Your Character

In 1878 the girls at Ontario Ladies’ College regularly helped in the soup kitchens. Today, community service continues to be a part of everyday life at Trafalgar Castle School. “Reaching out gives students a sense of goodwill”, says our Community Service Coordinator. “They learn how wonderful it feels to open their hearts to others.”

Some of our students recently travelled to Costa Rica to build homes for Habitat For Humanity. They found out first hand that hard work really does build character. But it was also a great way of learning about other people. Lasting for World Vision was another character-building experience. Of course, the girls help out with causes closer to home like the Terry Fox Run and local Big Sisters Groups. They are actively involved with the Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre for Children & Youth right here in Whitby.

Your Schedule

A typical day at Trafalgar Castle School begins at 8:05 a.m. when the entire School assembles in the historical Grace Chapel. After a brief meeting it’s off to class. Classes here are small and interactive. Everyone is encouraged to participate and share ideas. Our dedicated teachers provide the highest standards of academic instruction. They’ll help you achieve to the best of your ability no matter what your style of learning.

Before you know it we’re back together again in the dining hall. Everyone agrees that it is great to eat in a friendly, family-like atmosphere. After lunch, there’s time to talk with friends, catch up on reading, or send a quick e-mail home, then it’s time for afternoon classes.

Above and beyond our extensive curriculum there are many workshops and presentations for each grade. Education is not limited to the classroom. Our Grade Six students have four week-long trips to Muskoka Woods Sports’ Resort. Outward Bound is an amazing programme for our Grade Nine students. March Break trips have included Spain, Italy, Greece and Costa Rica. Various theatre trips, trips to art galleries, the Science Centre, Wonderland, ski trips and so many others, ensure your education is well rounded and fun.
