T2 Field Hockey

The Trafalgar Dragons had a good year, led by some strong performances from their core of talented Grade 12’s. Over the course of the year, many scoring opportunities arose from the adept passing of the trio of Harriet, Hailey and Caroline.

Those opportunities would not have been possible except for the excellent mid-field work of a number of players who rotated throughout the four mid-field positions. Monika, Allison, both Grade 12, Amanda, Grade 11, Lindsay, Grade 10, Hali and Cassidy, both Grade 9, were all mid-field warriors this year contributing on both sides of the ball, helping out on offense as well as defense.

The Dragons were particularly stingy on defense this year, led by returning players Carolyn, Patricia, Laura, all Grade 11, and Julia, Grade 9. These girls, with support from the mid-field, put up a near impenetrable wall, which was anchored by goalie, Lesley, Grade 11.

Next year looks to be a good one, with a strong core of players returning to the line-up. Great job this year ladies!

Hockey

The Dragons played their season opener against Bishop Strachan School on November 29, and what an opener it was. The pace was fast and furious through the opening frame with BSS rolling three lines to Trafalgar’s two, but the girls managed to pull to a 1 - 0 lead on the strength of a twisted wrister from Michelle, Grade 8. The “Big Three” on defense - Lindsay, Grade 10, Jessica, Grade 9, and Maura, Grade 11 - had an excellent first frame, helping goaltender, Margaret, Grade 12, to squash all of BSS’s scoring opportunities.

The second period looked to be a repeat of the first with more back and forth action. A great two-way play from first year player, Jamie, Grade 8, and Grade 9 standouts, Cassidy and Alanna, kept the Dragons ahead by a goal at the end of the frame.

Unfortunately, conditioning and numbers took their toll as Bishop Strachan’s greater numbers finally prevailed with BSS netting two in the final frame despite a tremendous effort from Margaret in the pipes. The Dragons just couldn’t mount a serious offensive threat in the 3rd period, despite valiant efforts from tireless Brittney and Jenny, both Grade 11.

A great first effort from the girls made for a great game for the fans.

Junior Soccer

The Midget Girls Soccer team had a great season, missing playoffs by just one point! Fighting hard in all their games, sometimes playing in the cold and pouring rain, the team never gave up. This was especially true in the last game where we fought to the bitter end, playing the game of the season. Congratulations on all your efforts!

U20 Volleyball

“Enthusiastic” and “dedicated” are the adjectives that I use to describe this year’s U20 Volleyball Team. In just a few short weeks, we have taken tremendous strides towards mastering positions, both offensively and defensively. Already this season, the girls have demonstrated individual improvement of skills which is credited to their focus and willingness to learn and adapt. I am both excited and eager to see how we can solidify as a team in the upcoming games. The season runs through early March, so come on out and catch a home game!

Ms. L. Robertson, Coach

U16 Volleyball

The season for the U16 Volleyball team is well underway. The girls have shown excellent playing abilities and sportsmanship, on and off the court. Our first game was at home, with the girls wining against The York School in two straight sets. St John's Kilmarnock was host to our second game, and although it was close, we came out on top, wining the last two sets of the game. I look forward to the rest of the volleyball season with the ladies as they develop their skills and grow as a team. Keep it up ladies!

Ms. R. Johnston, Coach

U14 Field Hockey

This year’s U14 Field Hockey team had a fun season learning new skills, while applying their knowledge to games and practices. We worked hard during the season to become better athletes with Ms. Alanna Johnston guiding us. With only six games it was a short season, but we battled many good teams, as well as the unpredictable fall weather. We would like to thank all 11 of the team members for a fun and enjoyable season, and a special thanks to Ms. Johnston for organizing the season for us!

Christina and Sarah, Grade 8

Cross Country

Trafalgar’s 2006 Cross Country Team had a busy competition schedule this past fall. The team travelled all over the province participating in the following races: Trinity Invitational, Run for the Cure, Mustang Invitational, Boardwalk Relays and the CISAA Championships. All runners braved cold, windy and wet conditions, and the runners worked hard to improve upon their personal best times. Ms. Miles-Berry wants to thank the following runners (both on the training and competitive teams) for a fun and exciting season.
